With a storied legacy of over 80 years, including war-time service and a complete rebuild, the 74’ APHRODITE has been placed in the hands of an experienced owner and classic boat enthusiast. Ensuring this retro 1937 torpedo-stern beauty remains in perfect condition, she was recently entrusted to Safe Harbor Pilots Point Marina and Alexseal’s yacht coatings system. Her recent winter refresh at the popular Connecticut, USA shipyard and marina included Alexseal’s Finish Primer 442 and Premium Topcoat 501 in Super Jet Black.
Originally launched in May of 1937 by the Purdy Boat Company for a Wall Street businessman, the APHRODITE was breath-taking and large for her era. She played host to a slew of famous folks, including actors and performers Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy and Fred Astaire, along with businessmen Henry Ford II and Nelson Rockefeller. APHRODITE was well-known throughout the Eastern US and influenced the style and design of many yachts of the mid-20th century. Continue reading “Keeping a Reborn Classic Shining with Alexseal”
The varied talents of Belfast, Maine’s Front Street Shipyard crew were utilized to their full potential for the year-and-a-half-long refit of Sindbad. The refit and extension of Attessa IV may seem an immense undertaking, but it is nothing out of the ordinary for Washington Yachting Group. One of many luxury yachts managed by the company, all have been transformed and added to: over 3 meters on the first Attessa, with Attessa II and III receiving additions of over 5 meters.
Attessa IV started her life in 1999 as the 91-meter Evergreen (Diana Yacht Design) but underwent an extensive transformation in 2007. After being purchased by Dennis Washington, the bow and stern were rebuilt to accommodate 100 meters of lavish appointments. This expansion of nearly 10 meters in length allowed the owners to add in a spa, cinema, and additional private helipad so that guests can have their own landing area on the bow. It was critical to establish an exquisite theme of luxury aboard Attessa IV, both inside and out. Continue reading “Attessa IV Gleams in Fresh ALEXSEAL® Topcoat”
One of the most recognized application teams in the superyacht industry, Pinmar’s finishing division has become one of the leading applicators on large yachts for many shipyards and builders throughout the USA, Mediterranean and Europe. The most recent example of this expertise is the successful refit of the 86m (282’) superyacht, Ecstasea, at Nobiskrug Shipyard in Rendsburg, Germany.
Originally launched by Feadship in 2004, M/Y Ecstasea was a technological marvel of its time and still remains highly relevant and respected after 12 years of service. Featuring multiple helipads, a wealth of tender and water toy storage, and many other extravagant accommodations throughout her three-plus decks, the massive proportions of Ecstasea presented no small challenge to the Pinmar application team.
Group CEO of Pinmar’s parent company, Global Yachting Group, Rupert Savage explained there are many fine examples of ALEXSEAL projects navigating Europe thanks to their efforts, “Captains talk to one another and learn that ALEXSEAL is a wellrespected paint brand with excellent results. So, many more yachts are making the decision to use ALEXSEAL. We enjoy working with the products and now have a lot of experience applying them. We have always enjoyed excellent support and service from ALEXSEAL, particularly the great technical support provided by Max Goncalves and Thomas Schultz.”
