Delivering a brand new yacht on the other side of the world usually involves a reservation on a transport ship, but not so for the bluewater inspired Gunboat sailing catamarans. Built on the premise of speed, strength and stability, Gunboats are designed to comfortably conquer long-range expeditions and ocean crossings.
FLOW, Gunboat’s latest 60 foot catamaran to splash, was constructed and finished in the company’s Xiamen, China facility where it received it’s stunning Alexseal Sea Foam topcoat. With the goal of being stateside in time for the fall 2013 boat show season, FLOW embarked on her own bottom on a 12,000 mile journey from Xiamen to North Carolina. Her world debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show proved that her long journey was a total success.
Launched in Cape Town in 2001 by Peter Johnstone, Gunboat began with a vision of the perfect cruising sailboat that could still hold its own on racing circuits. His vision has been improved upon, perfected, and shared with dozens of Gunboat owners around the world. Recently Gunboat opened a new production facility in Wanchese, North Carolina in addition to their operations in Asia. The Wanchese facility is home to the Gunboat 55 platform with several boats in different stages of production and the first preparing to splash in Winter 2014. Gunboat has shown preference to the Alexseal system for all of their boats built in Wanchese and we are very excited to partner with such a world-class team.
