When it comes to aspects like durability, corrosion protection or brilliance in the yachting world, some might only think about the exterior parts of a yacht. However, these terms are also relevant when it comes to the interior, be it the engine room, storage units or other places on the yacht. In contrast to “typical” exterior threats like abrasion, saltwater corrosion or UV radiation, interior parts of yachts instead need protection from perils like scratching, solvents, chemicals, synthetic cooling agents or hydraulic oils.
ALEXSEAL® has recognized the importance of interior protection and has developed a coating system customized for the application in the interior.
Deciding on the ideal fairing compound can sometimes be an agonizing choice that nonetheless has to be made. ALEXSEAL® helps you to make the right choice.
Taking a yacht out to the open sea is always a little bit like an adventure – despite all modern improvements and amenities. Some might even consider the vast emptiness of the oceans and the forces of nature as some of the last frontiers of the planet. Therefore, it is not surprising that more and more yachts travel to remote regions that can be challenging for man and machine. Whatever the reason for the journey, be it an extended exploration with the family or big game fishing, and whatever the course, the yacht should always be protected as much as possible to maintain its appearance and durability.
With a storied legacy of over 80 years, including war-time service and a complete rebuild, the 74’ APHRODITE has been placed in the hands of an experienced owner and classic boat enthusiast. Ensuring this retro 1937 torpedo-stern beauty remains in perfect condition, she was recently entrusted to Safe Harbor Pilots Point Marina and Alexseal’s yacht coatings system. Her recent winter refresh at the popular Connecticut, USA shipyard and marina included Alexseal’s Finish Primer 442 and Premium Topcoat 501 in Super Jet Black.
Originally launched in May of 1937 by the Purdy Boat Company for a Wall Street businessman, the APHRODITE was breath-taking and large for her era. She played host to a slew of famous folks, including actors and performers Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy and Fred Astaire, along with businessmen Henry Ford II and Nelson Rockefeller. APHRODITE was well-known throughout the Eastern US and influenced the style and design of many yachts of the mid-20th century. Continue reading “Keeping a Reborn Classic Shining with Alexseal”
Alexseal has greatly enjoyed being a sponsor of the Newport Charter Yacht Show for many years. During this 4-day event, there are various contests for captains and crew including best chef, best signature cocktail, best table setting and more. However, there is always one evening during the show that sponsors get to host fun challenges for the attendees. Contests for the 2019 Newport Charter Yacht Show included large fender inflating and a drone obstacle course.
The Brooklin Boat Yard got their start in 1960 by Joel M. White on the coast of Maine, USA, specializing in boat design, construction, repair and maintenance. Joel and his son Steve have always been early adopters of technology, incorporating the WEST Systems epoxy in 1979 and vacuum-bagging laminates in 1981. These systems are still used throughout the marine industry today for strength and efficiency in production. However, one thing has not changed at Brooklin Boat Yard in their nearly 60-year history: they still build wooden boats from the keel up.
Brooklin’s latest build: the Botin 55 utilizes the complete Alexseal system. This cold-molded 55-foot sailing yacht was custom designed by Botin Partners in Spain and has been engineered for racing. The Alexseal system offers impressive weight savings over comparable coatings products without sacrificing our renowned durability, repairability and superior gloss. When All American Marine, Inc. (AAM) set out to build the second of three low-wake, high-speed passenger vessels for Kitsap Transit, they were faced with high targets for speed, efficiency and durability. Alexseal and our West Coast Sales Manager Alex Sandas stepped up to the challenge for providing a coatings system that meets or exceeds the builder’s and operators’ requirements. With new custom colors, Tangerine Orange and Teal, we also ensured the ferry would look stunning at rest or at speed. The OA Yachts 45 Divergence is Outboard Powered and Built to Fish or Dive
Known for building luxurious and beautiful motoryachts and superyachts with appointments and finishes that rival those of the custom megayacht builders, Ocean Alexander is taking a bold step into a new segment. Accustomed to building yachts ranging from 70′(21m) to 155′(47m), OA Yachts is entering the mid-size sport yacht segment with their all-new 45 Divergence. It’s difficult to classify this yacht: center console, walk-around and dayboat really can’t describe her striking lines and thoughtful features found throughout. One thing is for certain, this new yacht is distinctly an Ocean Alexander – just smaller and outboard powered!
Set to debut at the 2019 Miami Yacht Show (which is also boasting a new venue), the 45 Divergence will initially be offered in 2 variants: dive or fish. However, in true OA Yachts fashion, this stunning yacht offers over 400 variations to potential buyers in terms of finish and appearance. While it may feel overwhelming to even imagine that many variations for this yacht’s interior and exterior, customers can rest assured that only 1 coatings system will be utilized throughout this new build: Alexseal. When building or refitting a superyacht, there are an innumerable amount of decisions to be made, some exceedingly more important than others. When it comes to the coatings system, a great deal of thought and input is discussed to make an informed decision. Captain Graeme Riddle of the S/Y Wellenreiter explains, “For any paint job, the financial aspects can be daunting, the technical complexities of paint confusing and the subjective nature of the finish frustrating to settle upon an agreement. Especially under pressure from external factors.”
The S/Y Wellenreiter spent the winter season at the Monaco Marine Shipyard in La Ciotat, France for a refit. The 151’ (46m) steel and aluminum sailing yacht was originally built in 2003 by Jongert Shipyard and required some minor updates and a full repaint. The owner and Captain Riddle have collaborated with shipyards on previous superyacht refits, so this was not their “first rodeo.” Continue reading “The Wellenreiter‘s Refit Success with Alexseal”
