The Brooklin Boat Yard got their start in 1960 by Joel M. White on the coast of Maine, USA, specializing in boat design, construction, repair and maintenance. Joel and his son Steve have always been early adopters of technology, incorporating the WEST Systems epoxy in 1979 and vacuum-bagging laminates in 1981. These systems are still used throughout the marine industry today for strength and efficiency in production. However, one thing has not changed at Brooklin Boat Yard in their nearly 60-year history: they still build wooden boats from the keel up.
Brooklin’s latest build: the Botin 55 utilizes the complete Alexseal system. This cold-molded 55-foot sailing yacht was custom designed by Botin Partners in Spain and has been engineered for racing. The Alexseal system offers impressive weight savings over comparable coatings products without sacrificing our renowned durability, repairability and superior gloss.
The process begins with Alexseal’s 328 sprayable fairing compound which is then followed by our 302 Super Build product. Finish Primer 442 is applied to protect the faired hull until she is ready for the Alexseal 501 Topcoat.
This is Brooklin’s second collaboration with the Botin Partners in Spain – their first was the 22m TOROA in 2017. The Botin 55 owner selected Brooklin Boat Yard and Botin Partners to design and build a custom yacht after seeing TOROA. The Botin 55 has a state-of-the-art cold-molded wooden hull and teak deck. Once launched, you can spot this sloop racing in classic yacht regattas across North America, from New England to the Caribbean.
Steve White, President of Brooklin Boat Yard is grateful to have the opportunity to work with Botin Partners again on this new build. “This new yacht will be very competitive on the spirit of tradition racing circuit. We look forward to optimizing her performance,” White exclaims.
With Alexseal’s lightweight fairing compounds and super-slick topcoats, the new Botin 55 is sure to be as fast as she is beautiful on the open water!
