As ALEXSEAL continues to win customers and global market share, one of the measuring sticks of success has always been the growing number of original equipment manufacturers that have partnered with ALEXSEAL to become their exclusive coatings system. From small parts manufacturers to the world’s most revered shipyards, companies big and small have recognized the quality, support and consistency that ALEXSEAL can provide for their production processes. There are also a growing number of projects and builders that are committing to the ALEXSEAL brand for all of their coatings needs–not just paint–but primers, fairing and finish as well.
Nearly fifteen years ago, early adoption of ALEXSEAL was an easy choice for the lucky builders who had already positioned themselves with the best minds in the paint industry. Major shipyards such as Westport and Cheoy Lee had already established relationships with our experienced team members who quickly came on board as for our introduction in the early 2000s. From those early successes, our team’s focus has been about customer outreach and exposing new people to the product’s technological superiority.
For a relatively tight knit industry that can be very set in its ways or even tend to play favorites, hold-outs were to be expected. There may be a learning curve for entrenched applicators, but, “Typically, once they see our products being applied and experience the quality results, it’s a done deal,” explains ALEXSEAL’s Jeff Grandgenett. Exposure like this is achieved through word-of- mouth, on-site demos and even formal seminars held at Mankiewicz’s facilities in Germany, the Americas and Asia.
501 Topcoat’s molecular structure and application characteristics are among the many reasons that applicators and shipyards are enjoying superior results with ALEXSEAL. This specially designed marine formula achieves an ideal flow-out with a long wet-edge that makes painting large surfaces easier, or can be fine-tuned for optimal drying times in a variety of conditions. At the nanotech level, exceptional molecular cross-linking and uniform pigmentation characteristics make the topcoat extremely durable and easier to repair. Builders are also finding ways to reduce costs with a range of ALEXSEAL products that can reduce overall material usage, are easier to apply, and ultimately minimize warranty and support issues.
Savvy builders are achieving superior results while reducing costs with the ALEXSEAL® system
Always eager to innovate and provide solutions, the ALEXSEAL team has developed several new specialty products, including a Fast Spot Primer designed with quick dry-to-sand properties allowing one to quickly spot prime and overcoat problem areas where an underlying coating or substrate has been exposed. Similarly, we’ve recently launched ALEXSEAL Blending Solvent, which makes seamless repairs to topcoats more achievable, and also updated our Fairing Compound, resulting in the lightest, most flexible product available to the marine market.
All ALEXSEAL products are thoughtfully manufactured with environmental regulations, ecological stewardship, and health and safety concerns a top priority. This can be evidenced in products such as the lower-VOC Waterborne Topcoat, and our new premium line of cleaning products, ALEXSEAL Washdown Concentrate and Polymer Sealer.
In It for the Long Run
In retrospect, the pioneering boatyards who tried our products over a decade ago are experiencing exceptional longevity in the life of the paint jobs in what are some of the world’s harshest environments. This is true not only of ALEXSEAL’s durability in the humid and salty tropical environments one would typically envision, but also that of the many arid, sandblasted locales in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Today’s yachtsmen are proving that no environment is off limits for the modern mariner and ALEXSEAL is uniquely designed to hold up to these challenges—with not only our products, but our people too.
ALEXSEAL’s readily accessible support team is well positioned and eager to help, wherever an end-user may be located across the globe. From sending samples, performing training seminars, or responding to repair questions, know that our friendly team and worldwide distributor network are all just a phone call or email away.
The marine coatings business can be a complex one. At different times we are working with a huge variety of people—designers, builders, project managers, applicators, captains, crews and boat owners. At ALEXSEAL, we delight in these challenges and have found success in providing solutions at every stage of the product life cycle— and it’s that complete circle of customer satisfaction that ultimately drives our team.
