Founded in 1959 by Ed Conijn, Contest Yachts set forth to build first class yachts in a range of 42’ – 72’ from the latest generation of polyester materials. The first product was an open two-man leeboard boat called the Flying Dutchman, an instant success that served as the basis for the racing class of the same name. Over 600 examples of this enormously popular yacht were eventually built, giving an incredible foundation to Contest Yachts.
For more than the last half century, Ed, his son Fritz and grandson Arjen responded to demands for their innovative designs by ushering in an era of Holland-built series, and more recently semi-custom yachts – establishing Contest Yachts well beyond Dutch borders. Smart teamwork has continued to be a hallmark of the Contest success story as they work with leading suppliers, which now includes ALEXSEAL® Yacht Coatings. ALEXSEAL technical sales manager, Marcel Voskamp, and Contest’s project managers work together closely to create a range of exceptional coatings solutions committed to a no-compromise approach to high quality finished products. With the launch of larger and larger sailing yachts, and their first-ever motoryacht, the Contest 52MC, in January, 2013, ALEXSEAL is delighted to share in the deliveries to come as Contest Yachts pursues further innovations.
