The refit and extension of Attessa IV may seem an immense undertaking, but it is nothing out of the ordinary for Washington Yachting Group. One of many luxury yachts managed by the company, all have been transformed and added to: over 3 meters on the first Attessa, with Attessa II and III receiving additions of over 5 meters.
Attessa IV started her life in 1999 as the 91-meter Evergreen (Diana Yacht Design) but underwent an extensive transformation in 2007. After being purchased by Dennis Washington, the bow and stern were rebuilt to accommodate 100 meters of lavish appointments. This expansion of nearly 10 meters in length allowed the owners to add in a spa, cinema, and additional private helipad so that guests can have their own landing area on the bow. It was critical to establish an exquisite theme of luxury aboard Attessa IV, both inside and out.
Matching the topcoat was one of the several areas requiring acute attention to detail during recent updates for Attessa IV in the Spring of 2017. “Application and repairability, that’s why we chose ALEXSEAL over the original coating,” explains applicator Edwin Post about the corrective measures needed to re-coat portions of the hull. After experiencing issues with competing products, the prep-work and application to cover 80 feet near the transom demanded a coatings system that would flawlessly blend with the existing dark blue. Continuous application on projects like these require coatings with a forgiving nature to repair gloss imperfections.
The successful application of ALEXSEAL on Attessa IV proved to the team that future refits should be carried out with ALEXSEAL products as well. The 68 meter Attessa III, originally commissioned as Aviva, underwent its first extensive transformation from 2002 to 2005. At the time, Washington saw an opportunity for purchasing a quality hull to bring back to life after she suffered an onboard fire in May of 2000.
The Feadship has recently undergone another overhaul in Vancouver, where Post coated her entire hull with ALEXSEAL Majestic Blue. Post praised the ALEXSEAL sales and support team adding, “Alex Sandas and Jeff Holland stand behind their products and are very helpful. I’ve been in this industry for over 25 years and started using ALEXSEAL ten years ago. I like the representation of ALEXSEAL, I like the product, and I like the repairability aspect of it. I like the application,” continues Post.
ALEXSEAL is pleased to welcome Attessa III and IV to our extensive portfolio of refits and we are confident that the combination of appearance, durability, and repairability will continue to represent the industry’s best for years to come.
